The War Department presented the Chicago to the Smithsonian Institution in 1925.

The Chicago at the Smithsonian

The War Department presented the Chicago to the Smithsonian Institution in 1925, where it was displayed in the Arts and Industries Building. The Chicago was restored in the early 1970s and became the first airplane installed in the newly built National Air and Space Museum, which opened in 1976.
