The Spirit of St. Louis returned to the United States from France aboard the cruiser USS Memphis, which President Calvin Coolidge sent to Europe to bring Lindbergh home. The aircraft was exhibited on a barge off Haines Point in Washington, DC, to protect it from souvenir hunters.
